OnePlus’s Nord 2 is the next affordable phone by the company, it was released with the MediaTek Helio 1200 AI processor. The Nord CE 5G and the Nord N200 5G are two new value-for-money phones from the company, both of which offer great hardware at a low price.

The device has a 6.53-inch FHD+ display with a 90Hz refresh rate and a 4,500-mAh battery to keep the lights on. Up to 8GB of RAM will accompany the MediaTek Dimensity 1200 AI CPU, which is more than plenty for a mid-range phone. The Nord 2's design is heavily influenced by the OnePlus 9, right down to the flat display with hole-punch output and the back camera placement. The phone is capable of carrying out tasks such as file switch.

At a glance, the OnePlus Nord 2 5G seems like quite the catch considering the price range however after its release an incident shed light on one major flaw.

OnePlus Nord 2 5G Becomes A Hazard

According to reports, Ankur Sharma received a brand new OnePlus Nord 2 5G from his wife, who was the one who made the purchase. She slung the phone in a sling and carried it with her on a bike ride less than a week after purchasing it. Mrs. Sharma was frightened by a loud bang when pedaling the bike, according to Wccftech; the OnePlus Nord 2 5G battery had blown.

Mrs. Sharma was not only physically hurt when the explosion pushed her off her bike, but she was also emotionally traumatized by the incident. The handset was extensively burned, according to images taken after the incident. The Sharmas decided to tweet about the event, which generated an immediate response from OnePlus.

The company gave the following statement after the images were posted, “"Hi Ankur. We are gutted to hear about your experience. We are deeply concerned and want to make it up to you. We request you to connect to us over a direct message so that we can make amends and turn this around for you." Both parties involved must have reached some sort of agreement since the tweet was removed.

The situation is being investigated by OnePlus. As far as we know, this is the first and only explosion involving the OnePlus Nord 2 5G, implying that this is a one-off occurrence and not something to be concerned about if you recently purchased a Nord 2 5G.

The company also released a separate statement for the public courtesy of Phone Arena, “Our top priority is the health and safety of our customers. We reached immediately out to the concerned user immediately about this incident and initiated a thorough internal investigation. The results indicate that the damage to this device was caused by an isolated incident involving external factors and not due to any manufacturing or product issue. However, we remain in close touch with this user and have offered our support to address their concerns and ensure their wellbeing."
