Oppo Find X3: Everything You Need To Know

Oppo has released the latest addition to its line of flagship phone; Oppo Find X3. It is the first Snapdragon 888 phone and marks the latest step in Chinese-based smartphone manufacturer’s  quest to conquer the premium market hence the expectations are high.

The tech mogul’s new phone has tons of premium features although it does not excel in every single area. Regardless, the phone is sure to attract attention; it will be available in markets beyond China as well.

Is it worth it?

It is well-known that Oppo’s Find series is a range of flagship premium devices for those who can spend a bit more than average to get a feature-packed device. At £1,099 or €1,149, the Find X3 Pro is slotting in between the Galaxy S21 Plus and the Galaxy S21 Ultra. Not your typical flagship device.

Obviously, due to the higher price tag, the device is jam-packed with impressive features. Supposedly, the device has a near-perfect screen, IP68 water/dust resistance, a glossy glass design, and a most radical camera system. In short, those people who are looking for another premium alternative to Apple and Samsung should consider getting this.

Some of the standout features

This time around Oppo is focusing on several features with the Find X3 Pro, and the first is the QHD+ 120Hz OLED display. According to the tech giant, the device got an A+ rating from testing firm DisplayMate, a rating not uncommon with the current influx of premium flagship devices. The company is quite vocal about the device’s “full-path color management system” for 10-bit video and photos which in simpler terms means the phone supports 10-bit video and photos for everything from capturing and editing to viewing said media on the screen.

Another interesting feature of Oppo’s Find X3 is its ability to identify a user’s color perception and present the ideal solution. There are over 760 color correction solutions present.  The cameras have been revamped as well, the device supports a 50MP IMX766 sensor for both the main and ultra-wide cameras.

However, there are certain downsides worth noting as well, the phone has a 3x telephoto camera instead of the latest 5x periscope shooter. There is even a slightly bizarre microscope camera at the back of the phone.

The Micro-lens

Over the past year, we have perhaps seen innovation at its peak, with tech companies developing some of the most mind-blowing technology yet but this is for sure a slightly bizarre addition. Oppo has taken its photography to the next level with a 3MP f/3.0 micro-lens. It can take extremely close shots of numerous objects. While the results are impressive there are minor issues.

Cameras

As previously noted Oppo has stepped up its camera game. This device in particular has a 50MP main camera and 50MP ultra-wide shooters. The cameras deliver excellent images with favorable conditions.  Both cameras had the same level of detail and color consistency. There slight functionality issues with the shooters, the HDR effects that could be too strong, and inconsistent results in low-light conditions.

Battery Life

If you have decided to go for the Oppo Find X3 Pro then you are getting a 4,500mAh battery. An upgrade from last year’s 4,210mAh capacity. The battery life easily lasts an entire day of normal usage such as getting rid of duplicate photos. Should get through the second day without charging.

The Find X3 Pro comes with 65W wired charging, matching its predecessor and other BBK phones. Despite the bigger battery, you’re still going from zero to 100% in a promised time of 35 minutes. The device supports wireless charging at 30W as well as reverse charging for headphones and other accessories.

Performance

This premium flagship device has the Snapdragon 888 chipset and 12 GB of RAM hence you should be able to play games without much trouble. Apps open and launch swiftly and there seem to be no issues while multitasking.

Software and Updates

Oppo’s Android skin is called ColorOS, and the Find X3 Pro is getting ColorOS 11.2. This update brings a customizable dark mode and always-on display, and FlexDrop floating windows for multitasking. Otherwise, the skin sits atop Android 11, as one would expect. There is no official word on the software updates but reports suggest that it will be updated to Android 13.

It is worth mentioning that this is the Company’s first non-Google device to get access to the Android 11 beta. So we’d expect a similar turn of events for the new handset and Android 12.

Verdict

Overall, the Oppo Find X3 device is an impressive one. It excels in performance and battery and has an above-average camera system. If you are looking for a premium device that is not by Samsung and Apple then this is the perfect fit for you.
