V40 5G: The Lede & The Story

Honor has recently presented the new flagship V40 5G phone on January 22. Initially, the launch was expected on January 18, which was pushed back on the aforesaid date. It is the first device appearing from the Honor brand after Huawei sold the sub brand and assets off to a Shenzhen-based Chinese consortium. So, the new V40 is launching as an independent agent.

In the first round, the V40 5G flagship phone is going to be broadcasted solely to the Chinese market. Certainly, the Honor’s V-series will make its way to the Western markets soon after some time under the moniker “View” series. The new 5G flagship phone will be known as “Honor V40 View”.

V40 5G: The Design Specs

What about the View40 design specifications? Let’s take a walkthrough of the V40 5G device from the hardware and the software perspective.

The design from the front is such as tending to make one think of Huawei P40 series. The P40 series inherently came into being with a pill-shaped selfie camera cutout and curved screen sizes – so is the new V40 5G phone. Moreover, the rear has a huge camera module that essentially provides a new look to the View 40 5G. The primary camera array of V40 phone has a 1/1.56-inch 50-megapixel sensor with an f/1.9 aperture, and accompanies by an 8MP ultra wide camera and a 2MP macro camera. The front selfie cutout has a single 16MP camera.

Alongside, it has a 4,000mAh battery powered by a 66W fast charging and 50W wireless charging facility. The screen measures 6.72-inches and has a 2672 x 1236 pixel resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, and a 300Hz touch response rate (super-convenient for contact management), plus HDR10+ support.

Interestingly, Honor has chosen to work with MediaTek on the processor, and the View40 has a Dimensity 1000+ 5G chip inside, with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage capacity.

V40 5G: Will It Arrive With Google Play Services?

Huawei declared that it was selling off Honor in November because of “tremendous pressure” and a trouble in making sure about a sufficient supply chain. Although, Honor is now an independent agent working freely from Huawei; it still depends upon its parent brand for most of its technology; for example, HiSense's Kirin processors.

Therefore, the efforts to deal with the anti-Huawei sanctions are nullified as of now. That implied it was hit similarly as hard by US sanctions prohibiting US organizations from working with Huawei.

The V40 phones for China market currently will not have Google Mobile Services or Google Play Services. But it is hoped that future V40 phones, outside China, will obviously have access to the Google Play services and other relevant components.

V40 5G: The Price Point & Availability

The View 40 5G devices would be available in China from January 22 with price starting at 3,599 yuan (~$550) for a model with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of capacity. 3,999 yuan (~$620) pairs the capacity to 256GB.
