Under The Screen Cameras | The Next Big Thing?

Here is a little recap of what has happened with the front cameras in the last few years. If you are here to only know about the new under the screen front camera phones then skip to paragraph 3.

Over the last couple of years we've seem smartphone companies coming up with new ideas to give us more and more of screen on our smartphones, and yes these new designs and ideas have made space for themselves in peoples' hands. Users seem to be pretty excited about bezel-less screens. Though there hasn't been much problem for the manufacturers to come up with screens that cover the whole phone, one thing always stood out, the front camera. In 2017, Apple took a step towards such a concept, the iPhone X. They gave us a notch. As always, some people had no problem with it and some just didn't like it so much. After that, companies just bombarded us with notches and to be honest, they sold the pretty well. But it never stops, does it? Manufacturers started competing for more and more screen, they kept reducing the size of the notch and we later had the teardrop notch.

While all this went on, there was also an idea of a motorized front cameras that would just pop up when you need it. Later, manufacturers also started adapting this idea as it gave users a full notch-less screen. It was good, the screen looked good, people bought it, but things weren't as sweet, cause motorized parts aren't so robust and non problematic, you know. During this time Samsung came up with something different, though it's not something very different from the teardrop notch. With their new laser cutting technology(not really), they cut a hole in their display to fit the camera. This was called the punch hole display. It was pretty good, the phone looked good, but it still wasn't a full camera less screen.

Manufacturers are now shifting towards under the screen front cameras. Samsung has been reportedly working on it. Recently, the Chinese giants "Xiaomi" and "Oppo" have released clips of their prototypes with a fully functional under the display front camera. Now, the trick behind is that when the front camera is working the screen behind it stops working, which actually allows light to pass through it and fall on the camera. It all seems pretty magical and perfect, right? But, that's not the case. The screen above the camera isn't transparent as a lens, instead it is translucent. Now because of that the phone produces very bad quality photos, and apparently there is no way of solving this problem yet. But, the technology is still in a very initial stage and we can expect improvement. On the other hand a lot of people can even be happy with bad quality photos in exchange with a notch free display or a motorized camera. What do you guys think, are under the screen cameras the next big thing?
